After weighing it against everything else Curaçao offers, it’s the resort that most reliably delivers the trip people picture when they book somewhere expensive.

Getting to Sandals Royal Curaçao
You’ll fly into Curaçao International Airport, also called Hato (code CUR). The resort sits on the Santa Barbara Estate on the southeast side of the island, overlooking Spanish Water, about 15 miles from the airport. Plan on roughly a 40 minute drive.
Here’s the good part. With Sandals, round-trip airport transfers are included in your rate, so you don’t need to sort a taxi or a rental to get there. The trade-off is that this resort is not walkable to Willemstad the way the in-town hotels are. Instead, it’s set on its own on a quieter stretch of coast, so it’s more of a settle-in-and-stay place. If seeing the old town matters to you, that’s where the resort’s signature perk comes in, which we’ll get to below.
The setting and who it’s for
Sandals Royal Curaçao is exclusively for couples, two adults, minimum age 18. It opened in 2022 as the first Sandals in the Dutch Caribbean. The resort is built as a series of “villages,” so even with 351 rooms it still feels varied rather than like one big block. It sits on a hillside above Spanish Water with wide ocean views, and the whole design leans romantic.
This is for couples celebrating something, or simply wanting a proper adults-only escape. Think honeymooners, anniversaries, or anyone who wants to trade the family-resort noise for quiet, good food, and a great pool with a drink in hand. In short, it fits the 30-55 traveler squarely.
Who should skip it? Families, obviously, since kids aren’t allowed at all. Anyone on a tight budget should also look elsewhere. So should anyone whose dream is a long stretch of natural Caribbean beach, because Sandals leans on protected, partly man-made swim areas rather than a wide sandy shoreline. What’s included at Sandals Royal Curaçao
Sandals is one of the more genuinely all-in all-inclusives out there, and that’s a big part of why the value holds up despite the price.
Included: all meals and snacks across the restaurants, bottomless top-shelf spirits and a stocked in-room minibar, tips, taxes, Wi-Fi throughout, and those round-trip airport transfers. Land sports, non-motorized watersports, and snorkeling are covered too. Unlimited scuba diving is also included for certified divers, which is a real standout since most resorts charge for it. Nightly entertainment rounds it out.
Costs extra ($): the Red Lane Spa, certain excursions and island tours, PADI certification if you’re not already certified (about $450, while a one-off discovery dive runs around $100), and special touches like private candlelight dinners. There are also butler-level suite categories that unlock more service and perks, which brings us to the perk people talk about most.
The Island Inclusive perk is the one to know. Guests in the Kurason Island Suites and Awa Seaside Bungalows categories get complimentary use of a convertible MINI Cooper to explore the island, and butler guests staying seven nights or more also get a $250 dine-out credit to eat off property. Given the resort’s quieter location, that car is genuinely useful. It’s a smart answer to the “but I want to see Willemstad” problem.

Suites
Accommodations are a strength, spread across villages with distinct personalities. The Awa Seaside Bungalows sit oceanfront with their own infinity pools. The Kurason Island Suites cluster around a heart-shaped pool. There are swim-up butler suites with direct pool access, and the Asombroso Rondoval villas are private, secluded units with their own pool and outdoor soaking tub. Club and butler service tiers add everything from room-category perks to full personal butlers, and guests especially praise those rooms. Fair warning from reviews: the butler tiers can create a visible gap, with butler guests getting priority on chairs and dining.
Pools
The signature is the Dos Awa two-level infinity pool overlooking Spanish Water, with an upper and lower deck, and it’s the image that sells the resort for good reason. There’s also an ocean-fed saltwater pool with a sand bottom. The pools, more than the beach, are the heart of the days here.
The beach
This is the honest caveat. Sandals Royal Curaçao is not the wide-open-sand kind of beach resort. It has protected, calm, crystal-clear swim areas rather than a long natural shoreline, and there are no overwater bungalows here the way there are at some other Sandals. Snorkeling and diving off the resort are good, and the water is beautiful. Still, if a big sandy beach is your non-negotiable, know that going in.
Food and restaurants
The dining lineup is a major draw, with around a dozen restaurants and eight concepts built exclusively for this resort. The range is real: Butch’s Island Chop House for steak, Strand for seafood, Pietra for Italian, Aolos for Mediterranean, Zuka for Central and South American, Gatsu for sushi, La Palma for Spanish tapas, and Toteki for traditional Curaçaoan cooking. Variety is the strong suit. The honest note is that quality isn’t perfectly even across every venue, and at busy times a few restaurants have had understaffing and long waits reported. Overall it’s very good, just not flawless.
Bars
There are more than a dozen bars, including a swim-up bar, all pouring top-shelf spirits as part of the all-inclusive. Drinks and the bar scene get consistent praise.
Scuba and watersports
For an active couple, this is where Sandals pulls ahead. Included unlimited diving for certified divers, snorkeling gear, and non-motorized watersports mean the water activities don’t nickel-and-dime you. Certification and specialty excursions cost extra.
Spa
The Red Lane Spa offers Caribbean-rooted treatments. It’s well regarded, though it’s an upcharge on top of the all-inclusive, as spas almost always are.
Service
Service is a big reason this resort rates as highly as it does, and staff and butlers get named again and again in reviews for going above and beyond.
