Plush Velvet Travel Jewelry Box: The One We Actually Pack

This is one of the few things on this page we actually travel with. The velvet travel jewelry box keeps rings, earrings, and necklaces from turning into a knotted pile at the bottom of a bag. It is small, soft, and genuinely pretty, and it earned a spot in Oprah’s Favorite Things in 2022. So here is why we pack it, and where it comes up short.

What it is, in plain terms

A compact velvet-covered case, about 3.75 inches square, made by Benevolence LA. Open it up and you get seven ring rolls, three padded sections for bracelets or necklaces, a separate earring compartment behind a flap, and a small built-in mirror. A gold side zipper keeps the whole thing closed in your bag.

Why it works for travel

The size is the point. It holds a trip’s worth of everyday pieces without taking more room than a sandwich, so it drops into a carry-on or a handbag easily. The ring rolls and dividers keep chains from tangling, which is the whole reason to own one. Plus the little mirror is more useful than it sounds when a hotel bathroom is dim.

What we like

  • Keeps necklaces and chains from tangling.
  • Tiny footprint, about the size of a sandwich.
  • Built-in mirror for quick touch-ups.
  • Soft velvet that looks far nicer than a pouch.
  • Separate earring compartment and ring rolls.

Worth knowing

  • Small, so a big collection will not fit.
  • Velvet attracts lint and can snag over time.
  • Soft sides guard against tangles, not crushing.
  • The mirror is handy but small.

Who the travel jewelry box is for

Pack it if you bring a modest set of everyday jewelry and hate untangling necklaces in a hotel room. But if you travel with a large or valuable collection, look at a bigger hard-sided case that guards against knocks, not just tangles.

Our take

The velvet travel jewelry box is a small, genuinely useful thing we keep packing, so long as you match it to a modest set of pieces. It solves the tangle problem in a case that looks good doing it.
