The baleaf one-piece is a sport swimsuit: racerback, wide straps, a U neckline and a low-cut leg. It’s the suit in this store for people who get in the water to swim, so the fabric and the straps matter more than the print.

We haven’t travelled with this one ourselves, so what follows is the spec and what owners keep saying about it.

baleaf one-piece swimsuit worn at the edge of a lane pool
Built for the lane pool and aquafit, not the lounger.

Chlorine-resistant polyester, racerback, removable cups

The body is 90 percent polyester and 10 percent spandex, and baleaf says the polyester is chlorine resistant, so it holds colour and shape longer than nylon in a pool. The lining is 100 percent polyester. It has a racerback with wide straps, a U neckline, a conservative low-leg cut, and removable soft cups behind a full lining. Machine wash. Sizes run X-Small to 3X-Large in ten colours.

Twenty lengths before breakfast

This is the suit for the resort pool at seven in the morning, before the loungers fill up. The racerback stays put through a proper swim, so you’re not resetting a strap every few lengths, and the polyester takes a week of chlorine without going baggy. Rinse it in the shower, hang it, and it’s dry for the next morning.

What keeps coming up

Owners who swim lengths or do aquafit two or three times a week are the happiest, because the fabric holds up where nylon suits go slack, and the suit stays in place and covers the seat. Several say it’s the first one-piece that fit a long torso. It also gets called plain, which is fair, because it is.

The complaint that comes up most is the removable cups. They fold over in the wash and shift in the suit, so you straighten them each time you put it on, and a few owners sewed them in place. Length splits people: shorter torsos are fine, some taller owners found the body short. Sizing runs both ways in the reviews, so check the chart against your measurements.

Our take

The one we’d pack if the point of the trip is the water. It won’t be the prettiest suit by the pool, and it isn’t trying to be.
